Or does this legend refer to a sort of visitation? We then move forward (or backward, as these interviews date from 1995) to techno and breakbeat jungle as recent applications of this technology. Science fiction is posited as an accurate reflection of the African diaspora, and we hear from the likes of Octavia Butler and Samuel Delany. This all serves as an Afrofuturism manifesto, aided in tone by the enigmatic pronouncements of a &ldquo;data thief&rdquo; and director John Akomfrah&rsquo;s mind-melting edits and shadowy stagings of the interview segments. A fascinating artifact with lingering contemporary significance.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<div class=\"npf_row\">\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\" data-orig-height=\"1195\" data-orig-width=\"1869\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/cadff29db7ca87a00eb45a23c2c53e4c\/3ecc3147ae590abf-99\/s640x960\/118a1c8239866bf6483dd45b19ccb9af4823994d.jpg\" data-orig-height=\"1195\" data-orig-width=\"1869\" \/><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<p>\u275d <i>Last Angel<\/i> is not only a film about science fiction but, partly influenced by Chris Marker\u2019s 1962 film <i>La Jet\u00e9e<\/i>, it features a character called the \u201cdata thief\u201d who travels back from the year 2195 to probe the failure of the Ghanaian revolution. If this all sounds hugely ambitious, Icarean even, that\u2019s part of its appeal.
