The film was about an exhibit in 1958-59 organised by Vadim Elis\u00e9eff, curator of the Parisian museum &lsquo;Mus\u00e9e Cernuschi&rsquo;, which showed sculptures and other objects from Asia, Europe and Egypt and highlighted the relationships between East (Orient) and West (Occident). \u275e <a href=\"https:\/\/href.li\/?https:\/\/youtu.be\/7siM9_9GSiI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">*<\/a><\/p>\n<p>+<\/p>\n<p>\u275d <i>Orient-Occident<\/i>\u00a0(1960) is very different from the other electroacoustic pieces of Xenakis (and even from his whole music) \u2026 on the level of sound objects\u2019 montage,\u00a0<i>Orient-Occident<\/i>\u00a0doesn\u2019t follow the schaefferian project, which is characterized by the attempt to replace the note by the sound object in the hope of remaining into the traditional definition of music \u2026 \u275e <a href=\"https:\/\/href.li\/?http:\/\/www.ems-network.org\/spip.php?article51\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">*<\/a><\/p>\n<p>+<\/p>\n<p>\u275d Xenakis, who \u201cfound God\u201d at 13 but was a staunch atheist later on, once said that art could \u201clead to realms that religion still occupies for some people.\u201d \u275e <a href=\"https:\/\/pitchfork.com\/reviews\/albums\/iannis-xenakis-electroacoustic-works\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">*<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u275d The first version of Orient-Occident is music for the film realised by Enrico Fulchignoni, commissioned by the Unesco and performed in Cannes on May 1960.
