The Sails p.2 by loscil

❝ All of these compositions were commissioned specifically by the choreographers for their projects, many of which might not be performed again (and one that never did get staged). ❞ *

Another fine installment of this series, with the song “Dote” being the highlight — it’s a singular masterpiece IMO.

❝ By having a major figure from Chinese mythology appear on European shores, Huang Yong Ping examines, the notions of identity and cultural hybridity, as is often the case in his work. The environmental question is also very present in his art where he regularly exposes the paradox of the man sawing the branch he is sitting on, torn between creative abilities and destructive impulses. This is one of the many possible interpretations of this work: placed on the beach, the skeleton appears with the tide and, little by little, will be home to marine fauna and flora. ❞ *

Tools by Giuseppe Ielasi

❝ With a title such as Tools, Ielasi has set no preconceptions or metaphors with his music except for the idea to make an experimental (and somewhat ironic) play on the traditional “DJ-tools” type of record that contains building blocks to allow a DJ to layer and combine with other records. In Ielasi’s case, however, the twist is in the fact that these tracks, despite being simple and stark, are complex, captivating structures and explorations of physical objects, composed in a way that is becoming signature Ielasi, that becomes perfect experimental music for hazy summertime listening. ❞ *

This album as well, as Giuseppe Ielasi’s Five Wooden Frames, Aix, and August are ‘name your price’ on Bandcamp for the week. These albums, as well as the previously posted ones from Minamo, are temporarily discounted to commemorate the impending new releases from both on the terrific 12k label. If you’re in need of experimental music that can double as chill out/work/study vibes then look no further.

These photos of abandoned Italian churches taken by Roman Robroek look like they’re right out of an Andrei Tarkovsky film. Stunning. There are a lot more of these photos HERE.

❝ Today, abandoned churches in Italy and elsewhere offer a unique glimpse into the past. A source of reflection, perhaps, as they prompt us to think about the future. If a church, once the most important haven in the community, can become a pile of ruins, what does that say about what we hold certain today? These are the traces of the past of many communities, and if we follow them, we can see where we all came from and perhaps where we’re going. ❞ *

Beautiful by Minamo

Tokyo’s Minamo fuse acoustic guitar and electronic manipulations within elegantly improvised sound pieces. Beautiful mind-scapy stuff.

The album above as well as Durée and Shining are available as ‘name your price’ on Bandcamp for the week. Definitely worth grabbing.
